I would really love y'all to know the Melisse was amazing. As long as I have known her, played soccer with her, had classes with her, I have always loved her. She loved making fun of how short I was, which is hilarious because she was of similar height. As hard as it is to picture, she will always be with us and even better, not in pain. I will be keeping y'all in my thoughts and prayers. Kristen Evans

I'm so sorry for all of our loses. I loved Melisse dearly. Honestly, I wish I had stayed in touch with her more after her move. I played soccer on a women's league team with Melisse for a few years while she was at Trinity. She was a good friend of mine and I always thought of her as a sister. I will be unable to attend the services, but I will be at the Trinity memorial service in January. With Love, Sarah Maspero

The Buland Family, My name is Melissa and I was a member of the club soccer team at Trinity which Melisse was a part of...before she upgraded to the big league (rightfully so...she was a quick and talented little bugger). Almost all of the memories that I have with Melisse involve me almost peeing my pants because I was laughing so hard. She was one of my favorite people to laugh with and I'm so very thankful to have known her. I hope you all find comfort and happiness in the memories. That is how she will live on and continue to work her Melisse Magic. Sincerely, Melissa Harman Trinity University Class of '07

David, Eng, Khim, and Alton, Thank you guys for blessing the world with Melisse. In the last 7 months, she has taught me more about life than ive learned in my entire life. She meant the world to me. I remember the first time we met...i was shy...i couldnt just go up to her and talk to her, so i talked to her on Facebook. Then one day she popped into my cube and we chatted. She had the most beautiful take on the world and life in general. We talked more and more each day and one day she asked if i wanted to go see a movie. haha. my heart was racing in my chest. I had class that day, but i skipped it so i could hang out with her. i took her to dinner...this vietnam place off of beach street downtown, we had Pho soup, it was awesome. We watched clerks, of course it was funny, but i knew i didnt want to end the night so soon and neither did she. I told her about this hill i found...that had an awesome view of downtown fort worth. She was up for anything...we sat up there for a good 6 hours....talking about life...love...everything. I learned about her, i was intrigued by her, she caught my heart in one evening. For the past 7 months, me and Melisse were inseperable. Every day I had a chance i wanted to take her out and learn more about her. We made it regular to meet somewhere and go out. We would go downtown and just walk around....the whole city...seeing everything...one of our favorite spots was Barnes and Nobles. We would read books for hours on end...it was awesome. There was one time we went out....it was just a normal thing...typical go out downtown and hang out....except this time it was different. We went to the Worthington hotel downtown. We had been there before, lol, the last time we were there, we tried sneaking into the 8th floor where you gotta get a key card to go in. Well this time it was different. We were sitting in the lobby and I looked into her eyes and i saw that sparkle...the one that caught my eye the first time I ever laid eyes on her. i stood in front of her and pulled her to her feet and hugged her...for a while...we gazed deep into each others eyes and we shared our first...and only kiss. I knew she was the perfect girl...too perfect for this world. We shared many many more memories together...from eating lunch together every day, to the art book her and I took turns drawing in. That book meant so much to her and I. I cant say I know how you feel...I cant imagine losing a child. I do however share your grief. Meeting Khim and Alton has done so much for me...and as far as i can tell, they were very glad to meet me too. They were both so kind to me. And David...thanks for trusting me with Melisse. Its hard to do that this day in age, but you did...and im grateful. Eng, it was a pleasure meeting you...Melisse spoke so much of you...all of you. There are so many more memories i want to share with you, but there is only so much i can say in a guestbook. One of these days...maybe we can get together and share some memories while making new ones. Always with love, Jonathan Cagle - USDA

David, Eng, Khim, and Alton- On behalf of Trinity University Soccer, I would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to your family for the loss of Melisse. I, myself, was only fortunate enough to spend 3 months with her as her coach. She was a bright and energetic young player and person, whose attitude never went unnoticed. Her penetrating and infectious smile will forever be familiar to me, and undoubedly anyone that knew her. Unfortunately, I was unaware of her passing until after the services leaving me unable to attend. Please know that Trinity Soccer will always remember Melisse. With Love, Lance Key

Dear Buland Family, I knew your wonderful famiy through Alton---the only Buland I was privileged to teach. Through knowing him, however, I knew you all and the rich life you shared. I am devastated that you have lost Melisse. I would have loved knowing and teaching her. I want to thank you for being brave enough to share the reality of bipolar illness with everyone. It is so insidious and even more so because it strikes our beautiful young people. Alton, thank you also for spending so much time with me--to comfort me---when you had hundreds of people to acknowledge. I never taught anyone closer to being the perfect student and human being than you were---and still are. I've never seen such a blend of the gifts of the head and of the heart. Your brilliant mind has always been matched by your humanitarian (both general and individual) sensitivity. I think of you so often with such love and appreciation. I can't repeat enough how much I love you and your family. Mary Adams

I’ve been putting this off for some time now, because I don’t know what to say. Some of the last memories I have of Melisse are soccer lessons the summer before she left to Trinity to tryout. What hurts the most is that I never called or kept in touch to find out how it went. I remember the conversations we had about her trying out and that regardless of how hard it would be that she should give it her best. Did she ever! This is just like Melisse to persist and to give everything her best. Her best was always good enough to accomplish whatever she set out to do! I am sorry I never met the family but just know that we’ve praying for the grace of God get you through these tough but joyous times, simply because Melisse is in a better place. Oscar Bersoza

I suppose I only knew Melisse briefly. We were enrolled in a class called 'computers and society.' Not the most demanding of classes, so we had plenty of time to talk and goof off. I sat next to her on day one, never having met her before, and within about 5 minutes we were playing a semi-lewd game of hangman. We managed to have a rather extensive conversation solely in whispers and scribbles. We were friends immediately, realizing by the end of the first class that we shared a real passion for similar music. We agreed to make each other cd's for the next class, and so it went for the rest of the semester. I still have the metric ton of new music she turned me on to, and listening to everything from devendra banhart to some chopin, to joanna newsom, innocence mission, and little bits here and there. They're all Melisse to me, and I know that, talking to her about a month ago, she was still listening to the tunes I'd given her. In that way, she's more apparent to me, and I'm more often reminded of her in my daily life than even some of my closest friends. Our friendship bloomed very quickly, and petered off after the semester was over, but she left a big residual impact on me, and wasn't quite like anyone I ever knew. I don't know any of the circumstances surrounding her passing, but I do know who she was while I knew her. -Matt Daly

Sarah and Melisse sitting together reading books, dressing in dress-up clothes, birthday parties, pre-school plays and all the meals we shared. Dave and family, I thought Melisse was the most beautiful young person I had met in a long time. Her eyes always seemed to sparkle and shine with mischief. I enjoyed talking to her and felt she was an asset to NRCS. I know your hearts are breaking and this time of the year is especially hard. She touched the lives of many people and I am sure she will never be forgotten. Suzi Self

Dear David and Eng, Alton and Khim, What sad news to hear. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Wish we were closer. We are grateful for technology, however. It was so nice to see pictures of your beautiful family and to hear your remarks. We too are grateful for our Savior: He showed us that the difference between His deepest despair and His glorious light was three days. What a blessed gift He has given us! Love to you all! My heart and prayers go out to all of you. It really saddened me to find out about Melisse today. I am so sorry that I did not know earlier. She was a precious young lady. I agree that she is in Our Father's hands now and she will never feel the pain again. Please remember that one day you will stand with her again and smile. All my love and prayers. Dear Eng, David, Alton and Khim, Words can not possibly express our heartfelt sympathy and sorrow about your loss. We are all in disbelief, hurt and feel we lost a daughter/sister too. We have so many good memories of lovely sweet Melisse. From the good old time in Huron as a child to a lovely beautiful young lady. One of our memorable memories of Melisse is from our trip to Temple, when we decided to visit Bulands without a prior plan. Khim and Melisse very cleverly kept our arrival secrete. I never forget the moment we walked into the house and the surprise!!!!!!!!! We never forget Melisses’s happy smile and kind look that night. We will miss her dearly but we know if God could pick one perfect angle, Melisse would be the one. Love, Sima & Mehdi Sabet

I have not been on this sight - and now I've had some time to browse - this memorial is beautiful. Shardai spent a moment to read the Bible verse under the tree. God Bless you guys and I pray that your trip will go well and that you will come home rested and renewed. Praying for you. Della
