Raymond Van Velsor, 80, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at his home
surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7900 McCart Ave., Fort Worth. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grace Lutheran Building Fund or a hospice. Raymond was born June 14, 1926, in Prairie City, Ill. In 1944, he joined the Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War. He married his loving wife, June Goldstein, on April 2, 1950. He started his railroad career in 1953, in Galva, Ill. with the CB&Q. He later transferred to Plano, Ill., served as trainmaster clerk in Aurora, Ill., and as claim agent in Chicago, Ill., before his transfer to the BN FW&D Railroad in Fort Worth. Raymond was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the council for many years and was a charter member of the Leisure Group. He served as commander of American Legion, Post 395 in Plano, Ill., in 1965. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister. Survivors: Wife, June; daughters, Linda Runnels and husband, Frank, Vickie Truby and husband, Douglas, and Lori Linch and husband, Larry; several grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Gladys Stambaugh and husband, Glen. |
