The Social Ministry Committee

The Social Ministry Committee shall consist of at least the Congregation Council chairperson and three (3) other members.

The goals of this committee are to foster relationships between the congregation, social service agencies and government agencies for help with any problem from information maintained in the church office.

1.         Educate the congregation on social issues and the position of the church on those issues.

2.         Foster support for missions and charities through an ongoing program of mission information and education through agencies, committees and organizations, rallies, festivals, films and filmstrips, letters and tracts, appearances of missionaries, etc.

3.         Plan and recommend a year-round program of local and worldwide outreach through the various ELCA and local ecumenical agencies.

4.         Maintain a list of and foster relationships with social service agencies for help with drug problems ( including alcohol), delinquency, mental retardation, emotionally disturbed individuals, unplanned pregnancies, and the like.

5.         Study, along with the pastor(s), the possibilities and recommend implementation of offering spiritual services and care to hospitals, homes for the aged, prisons and other institutions within the community.

6.         Represent the congregation in appropriate community activities.

7.         Be concerned with the congregation’s role in the community, together with other appropriate committees, and develop useful means for becoming a better servant to the community.

8.         Maintain contact with benevolent and charitable agencies in the community, state and on the national level and ,in conjunction with the Stewardship Committee, recommend to the congregation responses to opportunities for service.

9.         Establish and maintain a continuing program of publicity for the congregation about its activities which will reflect favorably on the congregation and its commitment to the Gospel of Christ.

10.       Plan, coordinate and implement programs for refugee resettlement with other appropriate committees as required.

11.       Arrange for the distribution of the altar flowers following worship services.
