Pastor Laird Duran is originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was baptized at St. James Episcopal Church in Atlantic City. At age 8, his family joined Reformation Lutheran (ELCA) in Absecon, New Jersey.
He received his B.A. in Music Education in 1973 from Rowan State College in Glassboro, New Jersey; violin was his major instrument. He taught strings in public schools in Willingboro, New Jersey, and Richmond, Vermont from 1973-1984. In Vermont, he and his family were members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, (AELC and ELCA).
In 1984, he studied at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, and received a Master of Divinity in 1988. He served St. Peter's, Uniontown, PA from 1988 till 1993, and Our Savior, Jonesboro, Arkansas from 1993 till 2001. He came to Grace, Fort Worth in June of 2001.
Pastor Duran is married to the former Marilyn Jackson Stewart and they have four children and three grandchildren. Dr. Marilyn Duran teaches nursing at Tarleton University.
